How this counter works
This page counts words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs as you type. It is a tally, not a grammar checker or a dictionary. For finding valid words from a rack of tiles, use Unscramble or the crossword helper. For pattern-based searches, open the Wordle solver. This tool does not load a word list; it just measures text you already have.
Questions
- What counts as a word?
- Any sequence of characters separated by whitespace (spaces, tabs, or line breaks). The counter does not validate whether a word is in the dictionary—it only counts tokens.
- Do spaces count as characters?
- The character count with spaces includes every keystroke you typed. The count without spaces removes all whitespace first, leaving only letters, punctuation, and digits.
- How is reading time estimated?
- Reading time assumes an average pace of roughly 225 words per minute. It is a rough estimate for silent reading, not a technical audit. Your pace may differ.
- Is my text uploaded?
- No. All counting happens in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server. The page works offline once loaded.
- How is this different from Unscramble?
- Unscramble rearranges tiles into valid words from a dictionary. This counter tallies text you have already written—no dictionary, no validation, no anagrams.
